The easiest way that I have found to troubleshoot a no start is to hit it with a quick shot of starting fluid. If it fires you have a fuel problem, If not look at ignition or compression.

fuel , air and spark is all any gas engine needs to run.
my order of diagnostics would be ; 1; check compression. unless you know it ran when you shut it off. if it died on its own and you pushed it in the corner that don't count as YOU shut it off. without compression the rest is a waste of time and money. inspect the air filter. 2; check for spark; no spark? verify or replace points, condenser, plugs, coil battery and wiring. 3; drain gas, clean the tank, change fuel filter and rebuild the carb. add fresh gas 4; if you did all the above it should start and run.
