Default QL brakes

Ok, folks. My first question: my 1650 seems to roll after I turn it off, with the foot brake on & locked. I know that the hydro transmission will not keep it from rolling once the fluid has drained, so I am obviously trying to figure out what needs attention.

I see from the service manual that there are both disc brakes and an internal brake in the transmission. Why both, and do I need to investigate the internal transmission brake? Is it a real brake, or does its function have more to do with the way the hydrostatic drive operates?

I haven't yet found a set of external brake pads for sale, but that might be 'cause I'm not good yet at plowing through our sponsors' websites. Searching doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions as to where I might find a couple of sets (might as well do both QLs)?

Dave with the QL's they went from internal to external back to internal brakes for some unknown reason. Here's some guides from the tech section of the site.

Just to clarify, there will not be both types of brakes in a transaxle, it will have either external or internal but not both.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
