Jonathan, your response cracked me up. Working with the public as you currently do, and like I did at a dealership for a while, has probably taught us both never to assume someone is doing the right thing or everyone is an "aware or good operator."

I had this for a Cat generator that we had in our quarry. It took 55 gals of oil for an oil change.

I've seen weird things happen, like a stick in the lawn knock a belt off a deck pulley.
In an environment that is protected like an engine bay in a combine, where nothing would invade the area to unlatch it, I think it would be ok.
But putting it near the ground exposed to where anything and everything would potentially open it would make me uneasy.
I put draw bar pins for implements in from the bottom with hairpins through them on top so as field debris don't knock the hair pin out, have lost way too many the other way.
I lost a lot of lynch pins also, so they get bolts and nylock nuts, on this farm.
For what little it takes to unscrew a drain plug, I'll stick to it.
Buts that just me.

I recently retired from the fleet maintenance dept of a large utility company. We had the EZ Drain valve on all our trucks and never had an issue. Many of the trucks spent considerable time off road in very rough terrain building the power transmission lines. Never had one of the valves leak or get knocked open. Other than the expense, I would highly recommend the product.

We have these on our log trucks at work. They are in and out of the woods all day long, and we've never had any issues. You would have a better chance of poking a hole in the oil pan than knocking that little lever open.

I like the adapter that lets you hook a hose on, sure would be handy for changing the oil while the deck or plow is still on.
