Before you start throwing parts @ it you might want to run a jumper hot wire to the sol small terminal and see if it turns over.

AGREED. Although you might be lucky and the solenoid might be the culprit, more information and troubleshooting is necessary. Could be wiring connection, clutch safety switch, key switch, etc. As jon asked is the solenoid working? Can you hear it click in start position? Measure twice, cut once

Jon sent this to me. Using a test light, hold the key in the start position and see if your getting power to the small terminal on the solenoid. If the light lights, but still no cranky, cranky.... then the solenoid is bad. If the light doesn't light, it may be a safety switch, or the key, or wiring. Trace the start wire from the key. Hope that helps!

Well I ran a wire from solenoid to starter and did the test light, said bad solenoid. Just got a new one from NAPA, made in China, still not working. Guess just take it back and try to find a Kohler one made in U.S.

When a +12V wire is put to the small sol terminal you have no "click or start?
The sol also has to have a good ground on the mounting legs. is this correct? |

That's correct. I ordered a 3 post MTD solenoid will report back with results, should be a winner. The one I took off was the original solenoid

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
