124 no crank

Hi, my 124 won't turn over. Starter generator checks out ok as well as coil and points. Battery is two years old. Bare wire somewhere maybe? Checked safety switch, it engages. Thanks for any info

Not enough information.

Coil and points have nothing to do with the cranking system.

How about the solenoid? Is it working????

Ignition switch?

My first suspect would be the solenoid.

Check ALL your grounds and connections. Probably something very simple.

Thanks for the help guys, looking like a solenoid. Wired the battery straight to the starter generator and it turned over. The wiring harness and grounds appear to be ok. Gonna start with solenoid and see if that's the problem!

Buy a decent solenoid. I bought one awhile back, lasted two mowing sessions. Was a cheap one.

Before you start throwing parts @ it you might want to run a jumper hot wire to the sol small terminal and see if it turns over.:bigthink:

AGREED. Although you might be lucky and the solenoid might be the culprit, more information and troubleshooting is necessary. Could be wiring connection, clutch safety switch, key switch, etc. As jon asked is the solenoid working? Can you hear it click in start position? Measure twice, cut once

bocephus1991 09-27-2015 12:30 AM

Jon sent this to me. Using a test light, hold the key in the start position and see if your getting power to the small terminal on the solenoid. If the light lights, but still no cranky, cranky.... then the solenoid is bad. If the light doesn't light, it may be a safety switch, or the key, or wiring. Trace the start wire from the key. Hope that helps!
