Hope you can enlighten me. I have my hydro exposed just like your last pic. Does the arm come off, or do you repair it in place in order to clean up the slot?

The arm does not come out unless you do hydro tear down. Brazed on a repair "kit" from Extreme Motor Works while wrapping the arm in wet towels to avoid damaging the seal. I'll have some finished pics up in just a bit. No action shots, unfortunately.

Not olympic-caliber brazing, but it's flush and square inside. A bit of dressing up and I'll call it done. (clickable image)
![]() Interestingly, the part from EMW caused a bit of an issue. Neither the original damper spring plate nor a new spare I had purchased would move over the repaired piece. Had to use a half round file to create two grooves that freed everything up. |

Painted the top side of the fenders today...
![]() ...and polished up the trunnion repair. I want to put shim washers on the shaft to tighten up the play when I put the damper plate back on but can't find them locally. Does anyone have a source?

I got an assortment pack from McMaster. IIRC it is a 5/8" shaft, here is a link to the 5/8" assortment, $11. They have other sizes if I'm wrong. Bill |

What size tap did you use? Did you have to drill it out any first? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
