Hydro gear blue- thoughts? Pic included
Hi all,
I am restoring a 149 and am replacing the infamous cork gasket. When I took the rear plate off I noticed the gear was blue, presumably from a lack of oil from the leak. Do you think this is a problem? I have another one I could swap in but would rather not go through the hassle if this will not cause a problem in the future. Thanks for looking, Derek

I don't know if the tempering of the metal will really effect the gear but if the teeth look OK I would go with it.

That is from the heat treating. This is the gear in my 2182. That is how it should look.
