Hydro gear blue- thoughts? Pic included
Hi all,
I am restoring a 149 and am replacing the infamous cork gasket. When I took the rear plate off I noticed the gear was blue, presumably from a lack of oil from the leak. Do you think this is a problem? I have another one I could swap in but would rather not go through the hassle if this will not cause a problem in the future. Thanks for looking, Derek https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c...o/IMG_0612.JPG |
I don't know if the tempering of the metal will really effect the gear but if the teeth look OK I would go with it.

It will be fine. But, does this machine have an internal or external brake?

That is from the heat treating. This is the gear in my 2182. That is how it should look.

Thanks guys; I will run it. It has external brakes.
