Default 582 Command Swap? Need the FACTS.

Has anyone nailed down exactly what is required to swap a command into a 582 or 82 series tractor yet? I know there are multiple posts questioning the Command swap but none have clearly defined answers.

Does anyone have all of the dimensions for a command motor by chance and or all of the dimensions for the stock briggs opposed I/C 16 twin?

I have a vanguard in my 582 now but have another one that is sitting in the garage begging for a repower. I like the vanguard but there is so much more out there for the Commands.

Can we get this set in stone? Parts required? Dimensions? Etc.?

Help would be greatly appreciated. By me and others I am sure.

The drive shaft and the exhaust are the biggest challenges. I ended up using the whole wiring harness from the donor tractor.

Matt

Checked out your site, pretty cool. What did you use for an adapter for the clutch on the CH? Let me know if you want to make the 18 into a 22 I have a good carb off a CH22. Playing with the idea of putting my spare CH22 into a 71, Yeah I know the frame will need some serious surgery but that’s why they make welders.

look up some of the pulling supplier websites they sell the hub that bolts to the command so you can bolt the driver to it. its actually really easy to do alot of pullers run the commands so there is alot of people who have done this, you also have to drill new holes for the command in the motor plate and shim the motor up, maybe new choke and throttle cables too but you should be able to use the factory wiring just have to move some wires around

I made mine because I needed a pulley to eventually add a pump for hydraulic lift.

Looks good guys, thanks for the info.

If I understand right; just some .469 spacers under the command and I should be ready to go? Aside from the command driver, etc. for the clutch set up?

Looks like I will be ordering a command in the near future.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
