...it's a good backup system! Interesting retro-mounting.

My Original has both the recoil and electric start. Long story short, my Grandfather bought it new with just the recoil, but Grandma had a hard time pulling it, so soon after he took it back to the dealer and had them add the starter/generator. I realize it's much simpler to do on an Original, with the recoil at the rear of the engine.
But the S/G has always had a difficult time starting the tractor. My uncle tells me it's always been like that, since new. I have a theory that the S/G just doesn't spin the motor fast enough when running just the magneto ignition. It turns over at about the same RPM as my 102, but everything's got to be just right for it to fire, choke, throttle, etc, especially when hot. It'll pop right over on the first or second pull of the recoil. Bob |

Bob,
Some cams for the early 7hp engines had a timing retard of some type. I dont think it's an acr. There was a talk about it on another forum. The pull start had them and S/G did not(or vice versa). If I remember correctly. |

I would love to get the parts to fix the recoil so I can have it as a backup. but I can't get my tractor to start even with the S/G and a battery booster on the battery at 200amp engine boost. I have spark and its getting fuel so why won't it fire?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
