I have had one of those plastic drum lawn rollers for a few years, purchased at Lowe's, I think. It's nothing very big, and has done....well, OK, I guess. But tonight, I bought a much bigger roller, steel- drummed, 4 feet long by 26 inches in diameter. I probably won't completely fill it when in use. How much weight (maximum) is recommended for towing such with our tractors?

Don't know what the "recomended" weight is....I use an AgriFab model (Contractors Edition), fill that sucker up with water and its supposed to be around 900lbs. It works great - if you don't get stuck!

Mike, your roller looks to be about the same size as mine. Looks great behind your 982!

That's the size I want. Need the weight to get some of this clay to settle down right.

DX3, do you think my 1000 would have any trouble pulling this big roller? Man, that tractor is a beast! Should I just use the 149?

What is the price of that Agri Fab roller? Mine was made by a local guy who works for a metal tank company...it weighs about 300 lbs empty. Paid $250. 00 Can't wait to use it.

DWayne, that does look good. Would you use water to fill it? I've heard to put some old oil in it first and let it coat the inside of the steel drum before filling with H20. I've even heard of some guys filling them with sand. Yikes!

Dad had one when I was a kid. I used it all the time even while mowing, tho it was nowhere that large. We always just used water. But emptied it in the fall and he put it up in the garage. Never had any problems with them. I wonder if maybe they coat them inside now?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
