Default Cc 1440

Hey everyone! Does anyone know much about the 1440? I found one on craigslist and I am thinking about purchasing it. They are asking a $1000. I believe this Cub was made by MTD, but it similar features to my 149. It's in my area and I went to look at it last night. It appears to be in excellent shape and with only 330 hours. I am just a little confused. I expected it to be more similar to MTD, but it's not. I was really surprised. The guy is firm on the price. Any information about this tractor would be greatly appreciated.

Just a quick update. I bought the tractor today. It's amazingly clean and seems to be in great shape. I am unsure of the year, but I understand it could be as old as a 1992. Hydro lever seems to be stiff in its operation. Hopefully its just from not being used.

It is a 1993 Model. I can't be specific on the month but am guessing somewhere around April or May. The Serial numbers for 1993 went from 836,001 to 851,000.

DX3. Thanks for the information. The guy I purchased it from was unsure of the year. It was his fathers. Was a MTD built cub cadet?

That model is a CCC or Cub Cadet Corporation model. Essentially MTD. They bought out Cub Cadet back around 1982.

Congrats on the 1440. They are a great tractor. I'll have had mine for a year Wednesday. I really love it and have put it through more abuse than a similar tractor would be able to handle, and it has taken that abuse with flying colors. I love it. The Briggs Vanguard is a fantastic motor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
