Default Timing site hole
Ok, so this is going to be a very stupid question. I want to check the timing on my K161 and I don't know where the site hole is. I've read up on how to time the system, but am not quite sure where to find the site hole. I read that it is on the starter/generator side of the tractor on the bearing plate, but I don't know what that is. Do I have to take anything off of the engine to get at it? Does anyone have a picture of where the site hole is and what it looks like? Thanks for your help.

It should be on the generator side between the block and the flywheel shroud, 1/2" or so hole on the side. If you can't find it I can post up a quick pic on mine...

It's a model 73. Is the site hole in different spots on different models even though it's still a 7hp engine? Thanks, Jason

Does the service manual have a picture of where the site hole is? I have a small engine repair book that tells me how to set the timing, but I don't know the terminology of engine parts that well. As such, I wasn't quite sure of where the bearing plate was. Believe me, I know the value of the service manuals, I have one for my 1250. Thanks, Jason

Thank you, I found a picture of the location of the site hole on my 73. It looks like a pretty small cover in a not very conspicuous spot. Thanks to all for your help.

Now that you've found it, shoot a little bright colored spray paint into the hole at the timing marks so you can see them.

On my 71 and all of my Originals the timing hole is right behind the starter/generator at just the right point that you can't possibly see through it, unless you start the motor, loosen the S/G belt, flip it off and rotate the S/G down out of the way.

Funny you should say that. I came home from work, found the hole, and thought, "How am I supposed to see in there with the starter/generator on?" Thanks for the tip. Jason
