I have a 1650 cub with the 16hp Kohler. It will hit WOT and low idle without any problems but it won't handle a load on it. Example, if I have it at wide open throttle and I press the hydro lever all the way forward, it bogs the engine down. That is the only way I can think to put a load on the engine. The carb is clean and its fresh gas. I know it takes some horses to turn your hydro and the hydro fluid has new Hytran and filter. I didn't no if this is a governor problem or a carb problem or if I am imagining things. Any advice will be appreciated.

How old is your spark plug?
What brand is it? Had that problem before. I had a spark arcing through the porcelain part of the plug. Only way I found this is running at night. |

Not sure if this will help but mine did the same thing to me would idle at low idle or wot all day long but a load would cause it to shake eraticaly and bog down. I replaced the points and set the timing and it solved the issue.

If it is faltering and stumbling and not coming up to rpm, try opening the main jet screw a 1/2 turn (CCW viewing the head) and see what it does noteing the position so you can return to that setting in the event that isn't a problem. |

A bad head gasket or carb gasket could be causing a lean condition but it would run hot also a sticky valve could cause this too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
