Default IH Cub Cadet 147 purchase?

I have an opportunity to pick up a 147 and wanted to get some thoughts from you all. It is fully functional, lights(front and rear), elctric lift with 3 point setup in the back, the hydro drive seems tight, the engine is black which the owner said was a direct replacement, all metal is in good condition with some very minor surface rust. The asking price is $725 and will come with a service manual. Any concerns, things to look out for, pricing? All input would be very much appreciated. This is my first post and must say the information on this site is amazing and the work being done on these tractors is very inspiring. Thanks

Josh

You probably should not buy that... I don't think you will be happy with it. If you send me the guy's phone number who ownes it now, I'll call him for you and tell him that you're going to pass on it.

Nice find!! The lift is a definite bonus!! I'd probably ask him what he used the 3 point hitch for on the back to see if he had a plow or something sitting around that he would also want to get rid of at the same time and maybe work it into the price or a few extra bucks. Hope you get it!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
