Default 100 hood hits steering wheel
Is it normal for the hood on my model 100 to hit the steering wheel when I open and close it?

You might try checking the steering wheel to see if it is bent first. You can use a 2x4 to straighten it in small increments at a time, with small adjustments made to each 1/3, then turn the wheel and repeat. You may also want to check the tower adjustment. Try loosening the bolts on the tower and it should give just a little.....slide it back if you are able.

ihnick, is exactly right, someone probably bumped something with the grill shell and bent the top of the frame a little.

Remove the two rear bolts in the grill shell and put a couple of flat washers between the casting and the frame to shim it back up to where it belongs (you can beat the frame back straight when you tear the tractor down for a total restore).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll check it tomorrow to see where the problem lies. I know the steering wheel is straight as I just rebuilt the steering gear. It had a full half turn of play in the steering. Bearings were just fragments and the cam follower was loose and worn almost to a point.

I have read numerous posts where someone put the wrong steering wheel on the tractor. Might want to check that also.

Most of the narrow frames has very little clearance between the steering wheel and hood. So any misalignment, bent frame/grille, steering wheel, etc. will cause the hood to hit. Here's what really cures the problem:





Someone put a different steering wheel and column on this 125. Problem solved.:biggrin2.gif:

That steering wheel also feels comfortable where the location is. The previous owner I believe made that mod.
