Default Load (Clutch) Spring for CC108

I think I might have the wrong clutch spring that came form Amazon. Description says it for a 108 as well as others. When I compressed it with all other parts installed on the drive shaft it looks like it's compressed so much that there is very little spring left to compress when applying the clutch pedal.

New spring not installed is 6 5/8 in. (uncompressed)

Old spring not installed is 5 5/8 in. (uncompressed)

I'm tempted to put the old spring back in.

Thanks for any input.

6.5/8 is the correct length. Do you have all the parts installed in the correct order? Pix would help...

I was going to take a picture of it fully assembled but could not collapse the spring enough to line up the hole for the roll pin.

The one on the left (old one) looks like it was machined or ground down to make it make it narrower.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
