Default Z-Force 48" Mulch Kit

Hello All. Been looking for a mulch kit for this mower, PN 590-862-100, and have learned it's discontinued. This mower is a 2011 model. I found a couple on Ebay for about $215, that's not going to happen. The deck was not designed for mulching so the kit includes baffels which basically routes the grass within the cutting chamber for each blade, three blades, and a plug for the exit chute. All I want are the three baffles. So I've started considering fabricating them myself.

But before I move forward I'm curious if it's worth it. Sometimes the accessories aren't. For those that have installed a kit like this (baffles and blades) did you notice a significant improvement? Let me know your experience.

Thanks. CP

I used an OEM mulch Kit On My 2022 Z-force SX54 for 2.5 years. It was great except for the first 2 weeks of the mowing season especially if you got a lot of rain. I mulch at 3.75 to 4-inches and Cut 3.9 acres twice a week. I find any lower than 3.5 You get a lot of mulch residue left even mowing twice a week. Last midsummer I switched to these blades https://meg-mo.com/ again. I cut at about 3.75, and I do it twice a week. But the only time You have any grass residue is if you mulch to Low or allow the grass to get to tall then expect to have fine unnoticeable grass clippings.

The Meg-mo system is much better than the OEM Mulch Kit. But the Only downside of the Meg-Mo is You have an open discharge chute again. That is the one thing I do miss about the OEM Mulch Kit, I didn't have the discharge chute On and it was blocked with the Mulch Plate. Which was great, as the OEM mulch kit allowed me to trim on both sides of the deck. But I think I'll invest in this https://www.ballard-inc.com/advanced...l?lang=default so I don't discharge any clipping into the flower beds.

But the Meg-mo system does much the the clipping very fine that the winds just blows them away were you can't see them with a Naked eye Unless You discharge on the street or flower beds

The Meg-mo system is more than the OEM mulch kit. I think ti's well worth the cost as you can easily sharpen the blades with sand paper All You need it the OEM Blade Part Number and width of deck which he'll either have in stock or he Can Make you a set of discs with Blades

Appreciate the detailed response and references. It definitely gives me some homework to do. I’m curious why can’t you use the OEM discharge mulch plate with the Meg-Mo blades?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
