While blowing snow from my 300 foot driveway today, I guess I smoked the PTO clutch on my 682. I could smell the clutch. Power to the blower can only just turn the blower blades, with no load.
So I guess a new PTO clutch (part 917-3044, or 717-3044) is in order. It seems the Warner part looks most original, but costs near $1000 CAD. Other part number matches are about $100, 1/10th the price. Can anybody recommend a decent part that I can get fairly quickly in Canada?

Looks like Charlie has them at Cub Cadet Specialties.
https://ccspecialties.org/eptos.html I would also try Houtz or P&K at the top of the page. Xtreme also makes them. https://xtremeope.com/

El Stupido here. The belt on the PTO was way too loose. Someone needs to hit me upside the head! Cleared the driveway in no time.

It couild have been worse, you could have pulled the trigger on the "parts cannon" like some do.
Now I do suggest you pull the trigger on a spare belt if you don't already have one, it has given you a warning SMELL.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
