I am rebuilding a 169 the bore on the engine mic's within the limits. Would you go ahead and get it bored 10 over or just put standard piston and rings on it.

If the bore dial indicator says the bore is straight, not tapered and not out of round, then you might get by with with a re ring.
But considering the age of the engine, I'd be surprised if it was within specks. How far is the crank tapered/out of round? What are you going to use the tractor for? Trading/selling it soon, then it would not pencil out to go a full overhaul. What is your budget? Do you have a machine shop that you trust, and local? Most shops are long gone, as we live in a throwaway world. These are all considerations to think about. Hope this helps. ![]() |

Dont forget you would at least need to have cylinder honed for new rings/piston even if mic is in spec. I'd take block to machinist for measure and he'll want the new piston on hand should it come to machining oversize.

It seems all the aftermarket pistons come with a very thick walled wrist pin which throws the reciprocal balance off even more. And 7/8” is an uncommon size in the automotive world. The weight that I added to the crankshaft on a K321 I just did barely offset the increased weight of the new piston and pin.
In retrospect, if I could get a Kohler piston for a reasonable price, I would do that for a machine I was going to keep and work. I’m going to pull the engine from a 149 this summer and try to find a Kohler piston to replace the jobber one I put in 95 hours ago. The rings never seated properly. And I want to rebalance that crank too. Are parts harder to find for the 16 hp engines? |

Between Norm from isavetractors.com and bakt4kids on e-bay I've had pretty good luck.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
