I'm working on refreshing my Original and pulled the left rear axle so I could check the brake. All is good there except an oil leak which is an easy fix. While I'm in there I need to replace the bearing. Here's my problem - I can't get the cage out. Does anyone have a recommendation how to get it loose? Here's a picture:
Oh, yeah - I did remove the bolts and the oil seal.

That is the side bearing cap. You have to take the three bolts out then it should come out. You need to remove the back cover and the other axle housing to remove the ring gear housing assy.

Nope. I did remove the three bolts and it won't budge. I can "spin" it using a drift pin and a BFH, but it won't "just come out". Kind of weird 'cause it's the same set up on my Farmall Cub, which did come right out. I was wondering if it might require a puller of some sort.

You can use a puller, but not sure what your are going to grab. there is an o ring that goes around the side bearing cap on a Original that may be making it harder to remove.

I was wondering the same about the O ring binding up. And also what the puller would grab. Guess I'll stare at it some more. Thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
