Upon finding my M18 crankcase full of fuel I decided had enough of the stock fuel pump and installed the facet 40177 fuel pump that had been ordered last fall. Now, I don't even need to use the choke on start up, just shove the throttle all the way open and starts on first turn of the crank. Much better throttle response and good idle. This new pump is rated at 1 to 2 psi and I feel more at ease knowing the crank case is not going to fill up with gas.

When I removed the original fuel pump diaphram, I looked for holes in it and did not see any and was curious as to how the fuel would pass down into the crank case.

A stuck needle valve will allow fuel into the crankcase as will a damaged float

I had that problem on my 682 with a kt17 series 11, every so often the float sticks open and drains the gas tank, gravity is funny like that. The easy foolproof solution is to turn off the gas at the shutoff and let engine run until it uses all the gas in the carb. Just gotta remember to turn the key off after it dies.

Shutting the fuel off is a good idea and I do have the shut off located just before the carb.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
