I was after the lift assembly and for the $100 I paid it was worth it for the lift. After getting home I found it to be a three digit cub. It came with a Briggs engine in it which will fit one of my Sears Suburban projects. But now that I realize it’s a 3 digit I hate to part it out. But I really just have a dash tower, Frame and a Tranny at this point and a lot to chase down. I know a lot of 3 digits were pull starts but at which serial did the electric starts begin. |

I would hate to part it too. Build it and find another lift. 3 digit O’s are worth more than what the lift is worth.

My 4 digit is fully disassembled and has the early rims. Basically I need to choose which one to restore as between the two of them I can complete one at this time. Really just stuck on the start system. Should I use the starter or try and track a pull start setup.

I had #994 and it was electric start so not all 3 digits were "yank to crank" motors.
I got a 63 roller Original with rear lift, spring assist & deck..... ![]()

Good find. I would NOT part that tractor out. If it were mine, I would go into full restoration.

Look like a thin axle on it too, very sought after for that 3 digit restoration. All you need is a hood, grill, motor, and such. We have a complete pull start engine....

Well without the original motor hard for me to know whether mine was electric or recoil. I can say there are holes in the tower for the ignition and the starter button. But I assume they all had that.

Thin axel? I have a early 4 digit and understand that collar spindles and no hole tower lack of creeper holes but what is meant by thin axle?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
