Default Yellow & White 982 Production Information

Is there any estimate of how many yellow & white 982s were produced?

I wasn't even aware of them until I found them in the 50 years of Cub Cadets, and then one for sale a few months later. It has been repowered with a Linamar and spent considerable time outside, however.

Would look really cool next to my Y&W 782

That is a rare one but I don't think they kept track of production numbers. There are a few members on here that have them. Do you know if it is a 982, 984 or a 986? The Linamar was the correct replacement engine for it back in the day. Go get it!

Lightbulb

They were so rare that CCC didn't bother to manufacture a hood decal that differs with the red "IH" branded models.

Really? I guess I suspected these were IH made but for CC residential/non ag dealers. I suppose it "should" have a decal like my 1711, kinda like the 1811's/what's in Oak's profile.

Sounds like they're the exact Onan just made in CA. Just a 982 to my knowledge (didn't see auxiliary hydraulics).

Thinking hard about it

They did make a different decal for the hood. This one is not mine but just maybe......I'll own it someday.
https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=44912

IH only ever made a red 982 and it could of had all the options or none. CCC made the Y&W 982 in 1982, 1983 & 1984 only. The model number will end in 100 if it is a true Y&W machine and 399 if it was red when it left the factory.

A 982 is a plain super with no options.
A 984 will have the rear PTO and Cat 0 hitch
A 986 will have front remotes, rear PTO & Cat 0 hitch

There never was a 984 or 986 decal for the hood, just a 982 decal.

Then came the 1912 & 1914.....

Question

So is this a repaint, or a factory mistake?

I see red on the floor boards but the serial tag tells all. If it ends in 100 it started life as yellow but if it ends in 399 it was born red.

......is that an old pic? I'm thinking I have seen that one around before.

Edit......if I blow that pic up it looks like an IH serial tag. I think this is a repainted red machine.

Turns out it's a 984 (rear PTO and 3 point, but no lift arms or front hydraulics) and it does have correct decals -- #C*3133

If you google yellow 982 that's one of the only ones that shows up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
