There I was going to buy some sweet corn for my Sat. eve bash.
I slam on the brakes & see this ole fart (like me) taping a for sale sign on a cub cadet # 122. Do I see what I see? $ 200.00 Turn around & start with questions. Does it run? answer; Do you think I pushed this thing? I pinch myself Whats wrong with it? answer; Nothing, got a new one don't need this one anymore. I pinch myself again & i'm, not dreaming. Can I take it for a ride? answer; Go ahead. After 5 min., it died on me 3 times, but started right up.??????????? Then I break the key off trying to start it for the 4th., time. ![]() Now ya did it he says. Now you bought it. After spending 2 hours with Pete we strike a deal of a lifetime while sitting by his new Deere. Pete is gonna deliver it to my house this Tuesday with his flat bed 7 miles away from my house. Then I gotta pay him a whole $ 150.00 ![]() 1 catch to this story. Pete likes to fish. I gotta take him out on Lake Michigan on my boat. Since I go out at least 2X a week, seems like I have another fishin' buddy. History; Pete bought it new, put on a new coil last June, 12 h.p Kohler & does NOT smoke. tranny changed about 3 or 4 years ago?, tires in super shape, tune up 2 years ago, deck is in SUPER SHAPE, never been in the rain, Pete blows his deck & Cub after each cutting, Bad; Hood is faded, maybe it'll need some fresh paint when I do my # 109 this Fall. Will post pics when this bad boy comes home & sits next to my # 109 that is all ripped apart. Nik, Oh almost forgot? His wife says that she'll make lunch for us out on the boat as I was drinking coffee & eating fresh Peach pie from Michigan peach's, & 2 hours of my life. |

In my limited experience with these older Cub Cadets is that the keys are prone to break in the ignition. I broken a couple of keys in these, one in a 123 and one in a 104. Easy to get the broken end out, though.
BTW, congratulations on finding it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
