Hey folks, I removed my '75 12hp flywheel because I have to repair my stator wiring harness due to mice. The castle nut was installed with "cuts" to the mating surface of the flywheel. Is this correct? Is replacing the seal a good idea since I'm there or is the quality and longevity of the stocker better than the replacement?

![]() I'm assuming it's a K301, I haven't had the head off, I looks identical to my other motor. I believe someone was in here before, one of the Phillips pan head screws was rounded out on the grass screen. I tried to grind a groove in it with my grinder. I had to weld a nut on it to finally get it off.

It was wrong side out.
solid side goes towards the flywheel. |

Castellations do mot mate with anything, always away from the mating surface.
As for the seal I don't know. If you didn't disturb it leave it be, that's my thought.

Don't fix what ain't broke, a flywheel seal on that engine is not a big deal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
