Default Spirit of 76

I'm going to look at a spirit of 76 today. Anybody familiar with them?
Anything I should look out for?
I think the fiberglass is broke where the front end attaches to the tractor. Can it be fixed?

Thanks

The Spirit of 76 was a lawn tractor, made only one year, 1976. It was painted in the bicentennial colors, but had a yellow and white counterpart, the 76 lawn tractor. The SO76 (Spirit of 76) was an unique in that it was made only one year and was painted differently than the rest of the Cub line. You will need the service manual and you can find it here: http://ccmanuals.info/pdf/76%20Cadet...e%20Manual.pdf

Fiberglass can be repaired, if you know what you're doing. I would think as long as the crack wasn't in an area that will see a lot of stress, then you should be okay. Also there are other hoods from other Cadet lawn tractors that are the same, except for the color scheme.

Thanks Terry.

Can you give me a ballpark what I should pay for it?

Thanks,

Mike

Cub Crazy: The one year thing is close but not quite....The SO76's also have their own Kind/Code (0350001Uxxxxx) and serial number series!

Serial Numbers 28600-31287 were manufactured in 1975 (IH had to be ready for the big Bi-Centennial whoop-te-doo in '76) and 31288-32414 were manufactured in 1976.

The Data Plate is on the engine deck to the left of the engine.

Because of their collectability, the SO76 can command bigger bucks than their brethren... Mine was all there but a real mess when I got it for $350.00. It is now a "trailer queen". All decalomania and paints are readily available. Watch for the white seat, white steering wheel and that impossible to find white steering wheel center cap...All OEM parts... Because it was Lawn Tractor, it also came with a mowing deck as standard equipment.

Except for the covers, the manuals for them are exactly the same as for the standard Model 76 and thus available at the OCC sponsor: www.binderbooks.com.

Please let us know if you actually get it.There is lots of help around here... even perhaps me :biggrin2.gif:...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
