While mowing in some heavy grass, notice engine Ch18S pulling down and darn near killing the tractor. Figured it was firing on one cyl. sure enough. As sitting in the seat, the left bank not firing. Figured it might be a dead plug, install new plug same. All my experience working on Kohler engines is with the K/CV series not the Ch. So I am assuming the I have a mag problem, to get to the mag/mags do I have to pull the engine? Also, why does the parts breakdown show only One (1) mag? when this is a twin cly engine. Any help/advice concerning this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I would pull the engine. Did you see if you are getting spark on both plugs. Just put a plug against the engine and crank it over and look the see if your getting spark.

The Parts Breakdown shows only one (for reference only) but in the parts box it says "Requires two".

For your reply. Checked both sides, nice spark on the right bank as sitting in the seat. I check the compression on both banks @ 170, did not seem right, so I checked with a different gauge and same reading both sides. I bet this is going to be an experience pulling the engine, as I have never done so.

I had one die in my 1864 a few years ago and replaced both of them while I had the engine out.

Went through the same issue with my Command powered 782 last year. Changed both.
I did crank seals while it was out too.

My 1864 is out for head gaskets. Is there a how-to on changing out the seals? The back looks like a challenge.
