Default 125 hydro forward and reverse issue

Just picked up another 125 to use as backup. Having an issue with the Hydro.
The forward and reverse speeds vary. Sometimes I have lots of forward speed and very little reverse speed. Then at times I go from forward to reverse and it has plenty of reverse speed. I have adjusted the neutral position and it looks to be correct. Not sure whats next. It is usable as is but would like to get it where it needs to be. Thanks

Oil looks fresh but is down from fill hole about a half inch. Filter does not look like it has been changed in awhile. I intend to do that this week. Question will I lose any oil other than what is in the filter when I remove it? Thanks! Mark

You can whatever you want to, but I would not just change the filter without changing the oil too. One of the most beneficial things about changing the oil in a hydro is that you have to remove the rear plate to drain it. That gives you the opportunity to reach in there with rags and clean out all the sediment and general gunk that accumulates in the bottom of the differential. Make sure you have plenty of clean rags before you start the job. It can be pretty dirty in there if it hasn't been changed in awhile. If you don't clean it out, anything that might be in there will just move into your new clean filter right away.

It's a little more expense, you'll need a gasket and about 7 quarts of Hy-Tran, but it will be a far more satisfactory job when you are done.

That's what I would recommend.

While you are at it, check the relief valves to make sure they are actuating as they should. If not, some PB Blaster and manually work them out should loosen them up.

You just don't "replace the "O" ring" you have then rebuilt, or replace then.

Check for slop in the linkage. That can cause a variation in speed. Also check your trunion. The end caps on the springs can get hung up instead of sliding if the trunion needs welding.

What is the Trunion? Excuse my lack of knowledge. I adjusted the cam plate so it has full travel in both directions. What is the spring above the cam plate that has the bracket running through it? Is that what you are talking about? Thanks for the help!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
