I picked up a dog of a 149...the shroud on the engine says 12HP (re-powered....or just wrong shroud?)....I have not gotten to really check it out, but everything on the tractor is a mess....the former owner drove it with the pivot pin on the front axle half way out ...the whole axle would move when the steering wheel is turned...the wiring is really fouled up...I pulled the engine out and I want to try to start it without experimenting and burning something....I am assuming that I would connect a wire from the field pole on the generator ( I had to remove this to get the engine out...(.it went back towards the ignition switch before I disconnected it) to the coil..and connect a jumper from a battery positive to the other pole on the generator, and connect negative from battery to the block of the engine....does this sound correct?...thanks for any help ...Mark

Leave the field wire disconnected, hook the battery negative to the block, + coil terminal to the battery positive to power up the ignition and hook the battery positive to the A terminal on the generator to crank the engine.

Just same suggestions to put a process on what you want to do....
before you connect anything to the coil...... 1. Remove the spark plug and loosen the s/g belt so the s/g can just spin.... 2. Ground you engine to the neg battery pole..... 3. Now touch you pos battery to the "A" terminal.... The s/g should spin like a motor. This will tell you the s/g is good starter wise.... 4. Spray some lube in the spark plug hole to lube your cylinder and tighten the belt.... 5. Do step 3 again and see if engine cranks, if not you have other problems..... 6. Connect spark plug wire from coil to spark plug and ground spark plug body to engine block..... 7. Jumper battery pos pole to coil "+" terminal.... 8. Do step 3 again and watch for spark on plug..... This will test your coil, points, and plug.... 9. If spark is good re-install spark plug and have fun..... Warning.... Don't leave the coil jumperd to the battery for any length of time without the engine running or you risk burning your coil or points. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
