I had a few minutes to search Craigslist today, came across a cub sitting in the weeds. I called, the lady on the phone, said she would take $100 with the blade, $75 without. I got her address, figured the rear ag tires were worth that. I didn't realize it had the deck and the bracket and rockshaft for a sleeve hitch. I now have a tractor for my second grandchild

That GT is in really good shape for sitting out in the elements, you could get your money's worth 10 different ways to Sunday with that thing if needed.

I hope to get to mess with it a little bit this weekend. The steering is locked up, so I sprayed the spindles and linkages with penetrating oil and see what happens. It is my first narrow frame. I saw the nearly new ag tires and rockshaft and sleeve hitch bracket on the back, so it was a no brainer. He also showed me a photo of a rear blade that he had, but I couldn't tell if it was a front blade that had been cut and welded into a rear one, or if it was made that way. I had never seen a rear blade for an old cub before. I am going to go back and get it when he gets it home.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
