Howdy everyone. My name is Clay and I'm new here. I'm also new to Cub Cadets. Last fall I hooked up with my lady friend who owns a GT 2542. Earlier last year a well meaning but not very bright family friend managed to break the hood while checking the oil. I'm a truck mechanic by trade so the question of " Honey can you fix it ? " was inevitable. Since then I've been slowly learning a bit about Cub Cadets. Recently we acquired a 2166 with minor fire damage and found an AGS 2130 on a property I just bought. The 2166 is repairable however the AGS 2130 is pretty sad from sitting out in the weather. Mean while I'm gonna get to reading threads

Good Morning,
I’m another newbie from PA, outside of Philadelphia. I always wanted a tractor and found a Model 70 to learn on. I look forward to the wealth of knowledge I am reading about on these threads. Good luck to you in your endeavors. Joe |

I'm south of Pittsburgh, and I also have a 2166 that I scored for free after a harness fire.
Pro tip - the wire that probably started the fire can be eliminated by replacing the solenoid in the carburetor with a float bowl screw from a Briggs and Stratton push mower, it seems to run plenty cool enough without some the plastic on the engine for pulling a wagon around the garden, and it's a heck of a lot of fun if you can find some free ATV tires for it.

If I recall, that 2130 has all the parts you need to make a good one if it was her a$$ that caught fire According to the internet, if you do get it running, the AGS transaxle isn't likely to last that long anyhow. If that cub bug is really biting, I see there's a 1250 for 250 on craigslist about 10 miles from you that needs some love.

That project however has to wait until fall. The 1250 just might be a deal but right now my free time is largely being spent with a bug that bit me about 40 years ago. For me Ford's fifth generation F series pickups are a disease with no cure. ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
