I’m looking for ideas to clean the varnish out of the fuel tank. I can reach most areas with a 40 degree pressure nozzle, but can’t reach the right saddle area.
Will turpentine, or paint thinner be too aggressive? I’ve entertained the idea of my handheld steam cleaner also. Thanks ![]()

I'd just clean it the best you can with the pressure washer then put a gallon or so of gas in it and shake /roll it around . make sure you have a good filter in the fuel line so if it cuts anything loose the filter will catch it.

I’m replacing all the fuel lines and fuel filter. The old gas had sat for several years. The rubber bungs, fuel cap and gasket for the low fuel sensor were semi liquified

Put some small gravel in the tank and shake it until your ears rattle. Then, rinse well with water.

I would try some Super Clean that you can get at Wally World.

I’ll check my local stores tomorrow. The right saddle tank area is so difficult to access for removal of this stubborn varnish. I’ll use It on the shut off valves also. I have another concern, as gummed up as the fuel lines were, what's the possibility the fuel pump is gummed up also?

I've had good luck with lacquer thinner and aircraft paint stripper,
but I never used it on a plastic tank and the pix looks like one??? |

Yes, it’s plastic. The picture is of the left side, the right [inaccessible] has the same varnish .

Dawn dish soap. Super clean , ...etc... may make plastic brittle.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
