So what's your longest running project in regards to fixing up a Cadet? I don't mean something simple like needing to put a tube in a tire because you had to add air twice all season, I'm talking that essentially dead machine that needs so much work you can't use it. Fencerow finds you dumped in the yard do not count, you have to have started working on it and have spent some $$$$ for parts.
Mine is a 2284 that has resided here for almost 2 full seasons. I did mow a little last year but had to quit due to a blown out muffler and BAD deck bearings--That sucker was louder than jumbo jet taking off. I finally got the muffler on and the deck is in a million pcs---pretty close anyway. I think now there are only 6 bolts left in the deck--gonna need the hot wrench for them.

Mine has to be the Viking, I got it last year after it had been left for dead and left to sit for several years. I'm currently using it to mow with just to work out any issues that might pop up and plan to pull it apart for paint come winter, I hope to have it all done for red power roundup next year since it will be in PA. Here's two pics of how it looked when I brought it home and one of how it looks now.

Been working on a 317 Deere for nearly a year now. It currently runs. Matter of fact I was just using it.... but you have to add oil before you run the gas tank dry.

When the engine blew we were poor. That changed but we built a house, kids, etc. Now retired and I did find a replacement motor and put it in with a new clutch and driveshaft. Drove it around a few times last year and then back in the shed. Got another engine that will get rebuilt. Deciding whether to restore or keep the patina.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
