I picked up this 70 today, it has a 10 hp in it as the old 7 hp has a hole in the block.

It came with a 38" mower deck and a few spare parts from a cyclops tractor he had in the barn. It needs a starter generator, a key switch, a grill, and the carb cleaned. It had a blown out tire so I stuck another one on it to get it off the truck. All of the control thingies move, the gas tanks are rust free on both motors, the clutch pedal is not froze up, but the PTO thingy needs work. This is a 63 model as the serial number is 67269. This was stored indoors. Maybe get it running tomorrow so I can cut some grass with it.

Looks like a fun project. Will you put it back to original? Or keep the 10?

Looks great Uncle L. Right up my alley. Uncle A always say patina equals personality. Assuming it’s going to get the LP treatment of a new clutch disk as well while the en-gyne is out? Nevermind I see that the one in it now doesn’t have the window in the block.

The earlier editions of the 70 models had the C-block 7 hp Kohler engines in them, so you can C the inards of the engine. They also came out with the C-series seats, by the Seymour Bunz Co. So, Uncle Lewy, looks like you will either be mowing tomorrow in your "back to nature" suit or your plumbers outfit! Nice pick-up Unc. Since it is the C-series 70, I hope you got it for the characteristic Uncle Lewy's 1 C-note price!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
