Good morning everyone, I was recently gifted a mid-80s Cub Cadet 1810. Now I’ve always been a John Deere man but I’m extremely excited to have this beast in my possession but I don’t know too much about them, other than the fact that they seem very reliable. The only issue is that it clicks but will not start, I know it does run because I’ve seen it move around the previous owners property. I was curious if there are any common issues with these tractors, starter, starter solenoid, etc that might have gone bad. Also if it is a starter or solenoid are they buried in the tractor and hard to get to or are they an easy part to swap out. Any info any of you guys have would be greatly appreciated and it’ll get me crusing around my property on this beast!

The solenoid is under the seat next to the battery. I suggest cleaning up the connections and do some testing to see where you're losing power.

Some would argue you have one of the best Cadets made. It had a "twin"--model 1811--only difference was that one had hydraulic lift. Cadet had it right with these two, well matched power to machine and deck size. Yours basically is a replacement of the earlier 682--great machine cursed with "flawed" engine design in its early days (not going into that debate).
Post some pics when you can--we love them! As with any 35 year old machine, it probably needs some work. We'll be happy to point you to known areas that just don't seem to last over 20-30 years before rebuilding is needed. Myself I like to get them cranked up and moving before I start throwing parts and work at one.

I'm sorry...
But I'm glad that you are giving this cub a chance! I think you might find that you've really been a CC man all along. ![]() And congrats on the new rig.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
