I am looking at a Super Garden Tractor, which brings me to a certain 2084 Cub Cadet.

The tractor itself is original with over 1,300 hours. It has the Kohler 20HP engine, rebuilt at 1,000 hours supposedly. It also has one of those heavy duty, 60" mower decks on it with a weld on the left side, and a broken lift arm.

Any big problems or things I should give a careful consideration to when looking at the tractor?

That tractor is listed on here in the c-list section. Looks pretty rough. I'd offer way less. Doubt he has the side panels, and I'd say it's going to need a good deal of work.

Honestly, I don't understand why anyone would have any need for a SGT without any options. As far as I'm concerned, a tractor that big with no 3pt is basically useless. There are far better machines with 60" decks you can buy for cutting grass.

Maybe the OP is a tall guy.

Maybe has side panels, just broken off tabs/ pins that hold them on.
Look at the rear end for broken bolts and leaks.

Looks pretty rough, I would offer half of asking or less. She’s going to take some work.

A little steep on the price if it is bare back or no other attachments like blower or front blade. Make sure deck is intact without holes. Blade tips are level side to side. (if the deck is hammered the bearing cup holders can bend the deck surface- been there- done that). Relay for the started is no big deal. Did you see the bills from the overhaul? Make sure all mower parts are there. Most deck parts are now No Longer Available (NLA).

I paid a grand for a 2284 with fender flares. Had to put 4 bills into the deck to get it in mowing shape. (center pulley and spindle shaft, new bearings, belts) Also beefed up/leveled the outer bearing cup holes by having metal welded underneath. Mows great now.....

Yeah..... I've mowed with them too. I'll take an Exmark with a 60" deck over an SGT any day. Get 3X as much done in the same amount of time.

There a FEW of us that just like big lawnmowers.

I have 3 Supers, 2 with 60" decks. one with 54". I've never so much as hooked a lawn cart to one of them. Got 3pt on the 982 and turning brakes and front hydraulics on the 2072---all worthless for my purposes--I'm just weird like that anyway. Maybe its the cool factor, I would say the leg room but its almost too much! Think there is a lot of misconception that these things are fast or that the owners are always trying to mow really fast--my answer to that is not really.

To the OP, I think you or someone else mentioned a 982 last week. Some of the same comments about it may apply here. Just remember 982's carry an inflated price, and the later Supers have plastic hoods/grill/side panels that are often broken and expensive to replace, if available. If you enjoy reading, search for Sam Mac's cyclops owner tips, very informative--some applies to Supers, some to slightly smaller models.

Biggest problem that I've seen on the Supers with the 60" decks is broken transmission cases at the front attachment point caused from twisting of the frame. Take a few minute and read these.

Edit: If this is the 2084 your talking about, price is higher than I would pay for it. Doesn't look like he takes very good care of it with all of the grass on top of the deck to rot it out. Broken lift link is no big deal, pretty sure you can still buy those new. I'll check.
