Default 2-B tiller Issues

My tiller stopped spinning yesterday...The belt would just slip. So I tightened the belt to see if I could get it to move again and it would just cut the motor off to my 582. Must be locked tight!.

Anyone have any manuals I should get to rebuild this thing? Any one have an extra one they want to sell?

If its locked up check and see if thier is something stuck underneith in one of the tines. My #2 tiller got an old horseshoe in it and killed the motor.

Belt to tiller itself. It was slipping at the tiller end. When I took tension off the belt the tiller wheel was hard to spin.

Internal chain. 2a did that to me... Pulled the bottom bearings... Both wore out completly, moved the shaft forward... Turned fine. I bet it's a chain. Try going backwards...

Thanks for the view. I hope I can still get the bearings if that is the problem. I will take a look at it when I get back from California.

I will take a look at the chain first thing. Then decide while I have it open what else will need to be replaced. Anyone have the part numbers on the bearings if I need them?

I would just take the old bearings to a bearing supply place like Motion Industries to procure suitable replacements. You might also want to replace the chain while you're in there if the links don't move freely, and anything else that looks badly worn.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
