I'm trying to restore my 1961 CC Original and so far the hoods are being a real PITA. Every time I think I have found a good one with NO crease in the front, sure enough after I get them sandblasted it stands out like a bad pimple.
Is there anyway to hammer that crease out and make the hood look nice !? I went to a body shop with the first one and it looked great; that is until I tried to put the hood ornament on that now won't lay flat because the bondo is too thick. Any tricks I could use here ? ![]() C&O2-10-4 |

Mine was rolled under as most are. Hammer, dolly and a 2x4 is what I used to get it close. Then finished it off with filler. But most of the filler was sanded away, so thickness wasn't an issue. ![]() For someone as myself who isn't in the auto body refinishing business, just took time, and many roll away, and come back later breaks... ![]() Tim (0lds45512) would be the guy to help you out. He's the forums expert body guru.

Did you supply the hood ornament to the bodyman doing the work so he could test fit it through out the work to make sure it would fit properly?

Oh it can be fixed.. I'm no bodyman but I have seen my friend do wonders with a hammer and dolly and like Tim and Todd said.. it takes time and patience.. you can't just whack away on it.. small little pecks and the right touch.. You will likely need just a bit of filler but most of that will be sanded back off and you will need to test fit the ornament as you go.. There aren't many true body men left at body shops anymore. It is a craft that takes a special touch.. Insurance work did away with most of the true craftsmen that could hammer anything straight!
