Default 2182 Starting Problems

Hello Gents,

I am having an issue with my 2182 starting. I have the key and push button start on this rig and I started it up yesterday and it cut off immediately. Now it wont start at all but it will crank over. It seems to be an electrical issue but I am just wondering where i should look first as to if there is a common issue? I think the key switch is okay but who knows. All i know is when i turn the key over and get ready to start, i should have the fuel pump running and the low oil light on but i dont even hear anything click on when i turn the key switch on. It turns over. I have voltage going to the switch. Any suggestions? Anyone's help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Well if you have a push button to start it someone has messed with the wiring so I have no idea what you have.

Where are you in VA?

@ Sam Mac

Well I have been using this mower for a while now and this was just all of a sudden. This looks to be a factory install push button but I could be wrong. I dont know a lot about this tractor but i know they key switch is factory and all the connectors havent been messed with as far as i can see.

I live in King William, VA

The 2182 did NOT roll out of the Factory with a Push Button start. Everything was incorporated in the Ignition Key Switch. This indicates that someone thought that part of the Ignition Switch was bad. In my world, if one part of the Ignition Switch is bad, then the whole damn thing is bad.

Like Sam said, someone has altered the wiring and thus it is hard to see and say, what they did.

IF.....this were mine, I would get the OEM Ignition Switch and return the wiring back to the original design.

I will guarantee that push button is not factory.
Let's see some pics of the wiring.
Check for corrosion on the terminals of the switch.
Better have a VOM handy.

I will try to send some pictures later. I didnt have a lot of time yesterday to read everything out. I am thinking it is something to do with the interlock from looking at the electrical diagram. The wiring on this Cub doesnt look the best. The guy let it sit for a while but i havent had any issues since i bought it last year besides some engine issues that i have repaired. I agree, I would have spent the $30 to get a new switch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
