Brought home another 149 yesterday and finally got around to unloading the truck. It starts and runs great but had a sheared pin at the flywheel end of the driveshaft. I stuck a bolt in it to run it around the yard and into the shop for pictures. The hydro was really jumpy so I pulled the tunnel cover and found the trunnion linkage quite worn. I plan to swap in the hydro from a 782 that I have extra. (thanks for the advise Jon) The driveshaft will get rebuilt as needed while it's out. The tins need paint but are exceptionally straight outside of a few dings here and there. I have the missing panels for under the gas tank. Paint will come after all the mechanicals are done and some shake down time. I think I'll call this one Popeye!

"Legend of a One-Eyes Sailor"!!! Certainly befitting of the cub and it has almost as much muscle as Popeye. The 149 will also eat grass like Popeye eats his spinach. What are your plans for the 149....mowing? Plowing? Reserve?
Looks like it has some really good bones to work with. Glad you landed it. Cub Cadet 123

No real plans right now other than a some fun tinkering everything to get it right. Long term plan is red/white with silver trim paint like the big boys. Saw a couple on here that are really cool and wanted my own. I do get all my Cubs out occasionally to mow or pull a yard trailer, so it won't be idle.

Doc here is a thread on some of the things I did on my 149.
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=46462 I hate that slotted coupling on the engine so it got a little 2000 series help. ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
