Default We need your help.

We got a Farmall H in at the shop, it came to us in boxes and someone has already done most of the painting. Since this isn't our area of expertise we could really use some help, if anybody has one of these it would be great if you could post up some pics so we can make sure we get it put together properly, up close pic of everything from the dash forward would be great. Thanks.

Tim, got any idea what year it is? How perfect of a restoration are you going for? Reason I ask about the year is there may be some differences for the early ones--think they started in 39. I assume this is a plain H, not a Super.
Most of these tractors you will find no longer have the kerosene manifold and the small (1 gal) starting tank was taken off long ago. Likewise the radiator shutters were normally chunked as well. Are you staying 6 volt or converting to 12? Magneto or distributor--I think they switched to distributor around 50-51. A popular addition I see added are fenders, toolboxes on the light bracket, and glass pre-cleaners on the air filter. Those options were not very popular here.
We never had an H but here is a shot of our 47 M.

I don't have an H or immediate access to one, but I've worked on several and know my IH's. Pics of what you have I can likely tell if it's right. But, like John asked, how detailed and exact a restore are you going for?

You do know IH has an online parts book you can look at just like CCC does, right?

Got a few Farmalls on the farm. Here are the only two pictures which I have on my phone at this time. Neither are an "H".

While an H and an M are both letter series, they are different tractors. Different motor, trans and finals. For that matter, different rear end altogether. Different clutch housings..... they're different. The M was the first tractor that had what became IH's "standard" bell housing used all the way through the Magnum tractors.

I'm not sure how exact it will be, someone else spray painted the whole thing and somehow we got stuck putting it together. We restored a super H a few years back but from the pics we have of it there's several differences. I'm sure I could spend hours looking at parts books but figured I'd ask here first, this guy is paying by the hour so I was just trying to save him some money and myself a headache.

I understand. I just wanted you to know that a parts book was online and free if you need it.

Got any antique tractor collector clubs around? They made a gazillion H tractors, got to be some local you could go look at.

If nothing else try here:
http://nationalihcollectors.com/chapters.html

Be advised there were some aftermarket improvements, M&W throttles come to mind. To me, anything that was an aftermarket improvement way back when, is acceptable on a restored machine. Dad's M has a Joy Rider seat on it. These were all bolt on items, not farmer retrofits.

Steiner should have tons of stuff available.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
