Default Deck Pulley

Went to install the last belt on the new deck, and this is what I found? What is it? I also have these, would they be the correct ones?

You need to replace the ones that are on the engine currently with the pulleys in the second picture

Ronnie that looks like the front of the 7 horse on my 70. Not sure about originals but mine has a lever on the side of the pedestal with a rod going out front to engage the PTO clutch. Yours does not have a PTO clutch.

Ronnies has constant running mid pulley deck with actuator built into the deck, he needs to swap pulleys

If it came to you like that, with the original pulleys in a box, i would be concerned there is a problem with them. Maybe the pulley was loose because the bore is wore out, and they put the basket pulley on as a cheap fix. Only way to find out is to swap em....put some shoes on first!

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure. It sucks to think your done and find someone has swapped the original pulleys. Makes me wonder why the PO would have done that. At least I have all the parts I need to get it right. Makes me glad I bought a parts engine for nothing a year ago.

I didn't see your response Bill. It came to me this way, but the 2 pulleys were in my spare parts. I paid 60.00 along time ago for a complete K161 that was stuck. But it had all the oil bath carb, those pulleys and just a bunch of good parts. I have also rebuilt that carb and repainted it. I guess now would be a good time to sell it to recoup my $$$. But as soon as I do, I will need one! Also, now would be a good time to fix those holes in the Grill Surround? I will have it off, so might as well.

They made a retrofit kit that used the pulley with the clutch system the release arm is only for an Original..It was so you could use a newer triangle deck on it.Or for a tiller

Mike,
Are you referring to the one on it now? I assume with this being a 4 digit machine, it would have had the 2 pulleys as shown?

Then it sounds like you got everything you need and should be good to go to just swap them out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
