Default What a difference tires make

I was considering selling my 2518 for a vehicle with either a locking diff or 4WD due to lots of slipping on inclines, but decided to give new tires a try. I picked up Carlisle All Trail's in a 23x10.5 which are slightly too wide (the next size down is 23x8). The added width made me have to turn the anti scalp wheel on the outside of the deck which is propping open the chute a little. I have to say the chute propped open slightly really helps with tall and wet grass cutting performance, reducing clumping.

I went out today in the rain on slopes to see if I could make them slip/spin and could not. At either low or high speed they just gripped on all of my problem areas without ripping up the grass either.

They were 200 bucks installed. A lot cheaper than a new tractor.

I have the same tires on my 1541. I no longer use chains when I put the thrower on. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

Put about 9 gals. of RV anti freeze in each tire and they will be even better.

Filled them with fluid? Ok, that's a new one to me. So you deflate the tires, take out the stem core and pour rv antifreeze in them, then reinflate? It just makes them heavier right?

As the others have said... Filling them with fluid will make a HUGE difference in the traction.. allows you to run very little air pressure so the tire will conform to the ground and get the full footprint... also adds quite a bit of weight... then if you need more traction add a set of wheel weights. Looks great... glad you didn't trade it!!

Who would have thought that different tires would solve a traction problem.

When I get home later this week I will post pictures of the tool and the pump I use, it's very easy to do and it's worth it

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
