Smile Refinishing a QA 42 Snow Thrower

Figure winter is right around the corner, so I decided to do a refinish of my QA42 snow thrower. Here are a couple of pictures of the blower before I take it apart.

After the entire unit was torn apart I decided to start on the biggest piece. After several days wire wheeling and sanding I put three coats of primer on it. Then wet sanded the primer and applied three coats of IH white. Here is the first piece sitting on the saw horses waiting for the paint to dry.

Now it will be on to the next piece, I will update as progress goes forward.

I think you need to buy one to use and keep that one for show.

Are the decals new or did you paint around them?

Great job! With 2 coat of Mothers Brazilian Carnauba cleaner wax nothing can't stick to it! You made that white powder fly baby!

The decals were in great shape. I taped them off and then sprayed the unit. I do plan to apply wax to keep the snow from sticking. Appreciate the compliments

That implement looks like it just was taken out of its original crate! We need a reveal pic with it on the tractor...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
