Well it started out with adjusting the brakes so that they would hold when you lock the pedal. Then I thought that while I was working on the new tractor a little that I would go ahead and remove that throttle stop screw so that well, you know, more HP ??? Should have left well enough alone, but I paid the price. Dropped the screw down in the blower housing and could not reach it with a magnet, so not that I had time to do it today, I had to pull the motor out to get to the screw, but what I found was a TON of muck and dirt and a leaky seal. Could not find a seal anywhere local so I had to order it.
See link to album below for pics http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/a...p?albumid=1094 Can't say enough about taking the time to blow out those motors periodically. That dirt really builds up bad and can cause a lot of problems that will cost you money and unplanned downtime when you don't want and for something that you could have prevented, to some degree anyway.

I use a leaf blower after every use on my 1864. I also use a tube with the air compressor trying every opening I can find to blow out the cylinders and blower housing. I have removed the engine a few times in the last 20 years. The blower area is still covered in dirt. Removal is again due. Sounds like a winter project.

Just got this tractor so since I have the motor out and the blower housing off, I am going to put some access holes in there to allow me to blow it out occasionally with compressed air. Will also put some holes in the bottom so that everything can blow out.
Will post some pics for the new mod.

That is a GREAT solution that came TOO FREAKING late for Kohler!!!!
Did you give them that idea? That is also much better than what I was going to do Sam. Will try to come up with some material and a good reliable way to attach them to the housing without the risk of the screws falling down into no mans land...........again. Some large conduit blank plugs may work as well, I'll have to look and see what sizes I have and how far they would stick inside the housing. Definitely something that should be done to all command motors when you have them out doing the maintenance or any repairs.

Couldn't resist doing this while I am waiting on a crank seal.
Made a template and cut out the opening in the housing with one of those sonic tools, worked great. Going to put blank conduit plugs in the bottom tomorrow.

Looks good. Maybe a product for sale.
Please post a picture of the bottom plug and with the fan housing installed. I'm interested in the access to the cylinder and head. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
