Is there a site or does anyone know what the earliest serial numbered Cub Cadet Originals have been found? Is 591 in some ones collection? It seems that this info should be somewhere?

400 - 589 Were early production, test, and experimental units.
590 is the start of actual factory production for tractors to be sold to the public.

Thanks. I ordered the book. I bet it is not a hard bound because it was cheap. I don't like paper back books. The last book I bought was Randy Felders book about his life in the Eagles. And it is a great book. If anyone wants it, just shoot me a pm.

Reprint....
"Prototypes 401 – 410 were built at the Louisville Plant from the time of October 5th -14th, 1960. Of these tractors, 409 & 411 are known to still exist. Test tractors 501 – 525 were built at the Louisvile Plant in the month of November 1960. All were sent to the Southern States for 50 hours of testing per tractor. Upon completion of the testing, all these tractors were sent back to IH for evalulation and later to be sold. A limited production of 526 – 589 was used to select the best manufacturing methods and assembly line procedures. The Orginal was released to the public in January of 1961 with starting serial number 590. Of the trial lot of 25 Cub Cadet test tractors built, at least 6 are known to exist: S/N's 505, 510, 515, 516, 518, 522"

There were a few of the "test" units around here. Specifically one that was sold to a golf course that is still around about 20 minutes from me. I've often thought there's a slim chance it's jammed in some shed somewhere but who knows, one day I'll go by

My local dealer has 535 a pre-production Cub Cadet up on a balcony for show. They sold it new and bought it back, as a trade in.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
