If the tank has any rust inside of it, consider using a phosphoric acid wash.
It will leave a black iron phosphate coating that protects the metal. I'm in the process of cleaning a 19 gallon tank from a 67 IH Travelall using this method.

Vinegar works good on metal tanks, I've used it. Works great on bolts too!

I use denatured alcohol. Is this a metal tank? If you add nuts or gravel as some may suggest, I would be concerned about promoting rust inside the tank. Might be a good time to seal the tank while you're at it?

How do small nuts/bolts or gravel promote rust in a tank?? Its a non painted surface in there, it will rust only when water and air a present....... Has nothing to do with a cleaning method.
Tank liners can work, most don't. If they are applied correctly, and you buy good stuff, I have seen them work fine. I have also seen them peel and flake causing way more issues than they were ever worth. The OP didn't say the tank was leaking, so no need for them anyway. Don't ever line/seal a tank that doesn't need it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
