Hello all, I just acquired a 1641 that has been sitting for about 6 months. Cranks and starts with starting fluid but quickly dies. I am going to start with the obvious fuel issue and I have been searching threads for a comprehensive start to finish guide of areas to check but came up empty. Based on what I have read here, I am going to change the fuel filter, check the solenoid (which apparently can be altered or bypassed), try to clean the main jet before I remove the carb and change out the gas in the tank. Other thoughts on where I should check?

I'm not going to tell you what to do but when I get one that I don't
know the history of I remove everything that has to do with the fuel system and clean it. Remove carb and clean well, change all fluids and filters. Remove engine cooling tins and make sure there is no mice nests and debris. I'm not one for leaving things to chance. ![]()

I would get it running first with a remote tank directly connected to the fuel pump to see how it runs,IE. smoke, knocks ect ect, then go the route terry said.

What he said. This method is quickest way to see what you got there. Hope it turns out in your favor. They are nice tractors.

All the above! Perhaps fuel lines also!
I did all the above then changed hydro and engine oil and the proper filters. Grease all. New deck belt. mule drive belt both Huskee Kevlar, on the rack at TSC. Sam and Lew are the gurus! Ask away. This Cub, our only Cub, is now our go to worker. Good luck with yours!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
