Default Charging issue 1811

My 1811 will charge some times. It will have a low charge rate then it might go to full charge, then to a discharge. I think it has to be the regulator, but I don't have a clue where it is. Does anyone have an electrical diagram that I could get a copy of?

the regulator is bolted to the engine on top of the blower housing. have you checked over your wiring to make sure all the connections are clean and tight or that there are no broken wires?

Default Wires

No not yet. I have had this issue for awhile. This started a couple of winters ago. Seamed to worse in the winter almost never charged but aways charged in the summer. In the winter I would just keep the trickle charger on it. Mowing tonight, sarted to do again. This was the first time that it has done this in the warmer weather, strange. I thing it might be easier to see what the wiring looks like if I pull the fuel tank?

Does the PTO ever drop out when this happens?

As a suggestion before you shotgun it with parts, locate the V/R and the three terminal plug that plugs into it. Make sure that the connector and V/R terminals are clean and make good contact.

All good suggestions to try.
Usually a solid state reg will not be intermittent.
I'd first go to the back of the Ign switch while it is running and wiggle the connector, if you see the intermittent problem you need to take some time and clean the terminals or if they are loose correct the problem.
That is a known problem area on a lot of tractors/mowers.

I'd check the ground, too. If there is rust at the connection, that would create this issue.

Default drops out

Yes if the battery gets real low, the PTO will drop out. Hope to take a look at it this weekend if we get rain. If no rain have to continue to paint garage

Thanks for the suggestions

I would check the battery real good with a load meter or just replace it with a new one. I have seen weak batteries do some very strange things. I had a JD 332 with the Yanmar and everything on it would light up and it would turn over just fine but there was not enough power left to fire the glow plugs. Bought a new battery, problem solved. Maybe try one of your auto batteries to see if the problem persists.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
